Book Fair Quickly Approaching
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be here soon, coinciding with the King George open house. The fair is an excellent way of filling your child's bookshelf with wonderful reading material and a great place to pick up posters, pencils and even resources for parents. Our school community bennefits from the fair by receiving a portion of the funds raised to purchase books for our library. Plan on attending this year's Scholastic Book Fair and stay tuned for specific dates and times.
Volunteers Needed
I am currently looking for adult volunteers in the library to help with the processing of books. The committment of time can be as much as one or two hours every week, or as little as an hour a month. Whatever works best for you would be greatly appreceiated by the school, the library, and myself. Most of your time will be spent covering new books with a plastic-like material. This process adds years to the life of our books by keeping them clean and protecting the covers.
New Way To Search Our Book Collection
The school board recently put in place a new, easy-to-use way of searching for books and other resources in school libraries. Called Destiny, this new system makes it easy for students to search for books by author, title, subject, or key words. Younger students can look for a favourite book using visuals by simply clicking on pictures such as knights in shining armour, kittens, or a baseball glove.
