  Ms. McPhee’s May Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The warm weather is here and the children are busy with skipping ropes, soccer balls and outside chalk. Let’s hope that we have bright sunny days ahead so we can spend lots of time outdoors. At the end of the month your child will be involved in Grade 3 testing. This will begin Monday, May 28th and will end on Friday, June 1st. They have worked very hard this year to prepare for this assessment of their primary years. I am so proud of them.

Balanced Literacy:

This month we will be focusing on reading stories, and answering questions that help children dive back into the text to improve answers. We will also be writing Adventure stories with great beginnings and satisfying endings.

Mathematics:

In Math the children will begin to work on multiplying. They will also be problem solving and measuring in litres and milliliters. The next time you are shopping with your child point out the items that are sold in ml or l. Let them measure when baking. This can be really helpful when teaching this concept. Continued practice counting money would also help your child.

Social Studies:

In Social Studies we will study Early Settlers, which will build on their knowledge of First Nations People. They will now learn about Early Settlers, their way of life and how they were influenced by First Nations People. This week we will walk up to the Centennial Museum to kick off our unit.
